• His brother, Ladislaous, was executed which caused a rebellion, making the king (who also was called Ladislaous) flee the country.
• He became the king at the age of 15 under his uncle's guardianship.
• He waged wars against Czech mercenaries who dominated upper Hungary and against Frederick III, the Holy Roman Emperor, who claimed Hungary for himself. And he invaded some territories which were occupied by the Ottomans.
• He established a professional army, reformed the administration of justice and reduced the power of the barons.
• He patronized art and science, his royal library, was one of the largest collections of books in Europe.
